Spa Treatment For Your Hair

There is nothing that helps a tired body rejuvenate like a spa treatment! It helps you relax, repair and refresh yourself to get back to your game. Well, the same rules apply for your hair too! Nothing gets life back into dull, listless and undernourished hair like a good hair spa treatment. A hair spa treatment can help your hair restore its good health and make it strong, bouncy and shiny while repairing the damage caused by dryness or dandruff. It can even help reduce hair fall to a large extent. Today, we enlist for you the benefits that a hair spa treatment can provide.

Hair care

Benefits of a hair spa treatment:
• Conditions your scalp, while leaving it free from chemicals and pollutants, which seep into the hair from air pollution and products.
• Helps you deal with various hair related problems such as dandruff, dry hair, split ends, hair fall
• The hair spa treatment helps normalize oil secretions and also stimulates blood circulation to the scalp, helping to repair the damage caused by dryness.
• The treatment works on the roots of the hair, helping you have healthier well-nourished hair. It also eliminates knotting, dryness and matting.

How it works:
• The hair spa treatment begins with shampooing the hair to cleanse it. This step is the first and most important as it determines the course of your spa treatment. If you are looking at doing the spa treatment at home, make sure you use a shampoo most suitable to your hair type. For example, if you have straight hair, using a shampoo, can help you lock your hair into perfect straightness right before you begin to deep condition it, making your treatment more effective!

• The next step is massaging it. If you are getting a salon treatment, there will be specific products that are used during the treatment depending on the challenge you are looking at addressing. At home, you could massage it with oil, in order to condition and nourish your hair

• Rinsing and then conditioning your hair follows next. You can choose a conditioner based on your hair type. For example if you have straight hair, you can use a range of shampoos and conditioners, to find your hair at its straightest best at the end of the treatment! You can even try homemade conditioners using ingredients available in your kitchen. For instance you can use egg and honey, or vinegar and mayonnaise to condition and nourish your hair.

So the next time you feel tired and feel like a massage, just remember to treat your hair to one too, and give it the spa treatment that it truly needs! Have a happy hair day!

8 Homemade Hair Treatments

Eggs, yogurt and honey are, at first glance, all components of a tasty breakfast—but they also happen to be hair treatment ingredients, and affordable, all-natural ones at that. And they’re not the only ones. Did you know, for instance, that the oils in avocados more closely resemble our own skin’s oils than any product in the beauty aisle does? Or that the mild acidity in lemon is an effective—and gentler—alternative to chemical-laden products? Next time your locks need a lift, save money by using one of these kitchen fixes.

For All Hair Types

hair masks“The [raw] egg is really the best of all worlds,” says Janice Cox, author of Natural Beauty at Home. The yolk, rich in fats and proteins, is naturally moisturizing, while the white, which contains bacteria-eating enzymes, removes unwanted oils, she explains.

To Use: For normal hair, use the entire egg to condition hair; use egg whites only to treat oily hair; use egg yolks only to moisturize dry, brittle hair, Cox says. Use 1/2 cup of whichever egg mixture is appropriate for you and apply to clean, damp hair. If there isn’t enough egg to coat scalp and hair, use more as needed. Leave on for 20 minutes, rinse with cool water (to prevent egg from “cooking”) and shampoo hair. Whole egg and yolks-only treatments can be applied once a month; whites-only treatment can be applied every two weeks.

For Dull Hair hair masks

Styling products (as well as air pollution) can leave a film that both saps moisture and dulls shine—but dairy products like sour cream and plain yogurt can help reverse this damage. “Lactic acid gently strips away dirt while the milk fat moisturizes,” says Lisa Belkin, author of The Cosmetics Cookbook.

To Use: Massage 1/2 cup sour cream or plain yogurt into damp hair and let sit for 20 minutes. Rinse with warm water, followed by cool water, then shampoo hair as you normally would. Treatment can be applied every other week.

For Itchy Scalp  hair oil

To fight flakes—brought on by poor diet, stress and climate, among other factors—try a lemon juice and olive oil mixture in your hair. “The acidity in lemon juice helps rid your scalp of any loose, dry flakes of skin, while the olive oil moisturizes the [newly exposed] skin on your head,” says Cox.

To Use: Mix 2 Tbsp fresh lemon juice, 2 Tbsp olive oil and 2 Tbsp water, and massage into damp scalp. Let mixture sit for 20 minutes, then rinse and shampoo hair. Treatment can be applied every other week.

For Limp or Fine Hair   04-DIY-hair-masks

To add body to hair, reach for an unlikely beauty beverage: beer! The fermented drink contains generous supplies of yeast, which works to plump tired tresses, explains Cox.

To Use: Mix 1/2 cup flat beer (pour beer into a container and let it sit out for a couple of hours to deplete carbonation) with 1 tsp light oil (sunflower or canola) and a raw egg. Apply to clean, damp hair, let sit for 15 minutes, then rinse with cool water. Or add flat beer only to a spray bottle and spritz onto dry hair. “When the liquid evaporates, the remaining protein residue (from the wheat, malt or hops) continues to strengthen and structure hair,” says Belkin. Treatments can be applied every other week.

For Dry or Sun-Damaged Hair05-DIY-hair-masks

Whatever your hair-dehydrating demon—hard water, sun overexposure, your trusty flat iron—nature’s sweetener can help. “Honey is a natural humectant, which means it attracts and locks in moisture,” says Cox.

To Use: Massage approximately 1/2 cup honey into clean, damp hair, let sit for 20 minutes, then rinse with warm water. You can also add 1 to 2 Tbsp olive oil to loosen the honey for easier application. For extremely sun-damaged hair, trying mixing honey with 1 to 2 Tbsp of a protein-rich ingredient, like avocado or egg yolk, which will help replenish the keratin protein bonds that UV rays attack. Treatment can be applied once a month.

For Oily or Greasy Hair  06-DIY-hair-masks

“Used properly, [cornmeal or cornstarch] is an inexpensive way to remove oil and grease,” says Belkin.

To Use: Pour 1 Tbsp cornmeal or cornstarch into an empty salt or pepper shaker and sprinkle onto dry hair and scalp until you’ve used it all. After 10 minutes, use a paddle hairbrush to completely brush it out. Treatment can be applied every other day.

For Frizzy Hair

Home beauty experts swear by avocado—and not just to repair damaged hair. Its oils (which are light and moist like our own natural skin secretions) and proteins boast the best combination of nutrients for smoothing and weighing down unruly hair, explains Cox.

To Use: Mash up half an avocado and massage into clean, damp hair. Let sit for 15 minutes before rinsing with water. Amp up moisturizing power by combining mashed avocado with 1 to 2 Tbsp of a hydrating ingredient, like sour cream, egg yolks or mayonnaise. Treatment can be applied every two weeks.

For Residue-Ridden Hair 08-DIY-hair-masks

“Nothing eats through product buildup like baking soda,” Cox says. Sodium bicarbonate essentially breaks down anything acidic.

To Use: Mix 1 to 2 Tbsp baking soda with small amounts of water until a thick paste forms. Massage into damp hair and let sit for 15 minutes. Rinse with water, then shampoo hair. Treatment can be applied every two weeks.

How to Rinse Hair with Beer

beers

Using beer to wash hair is a traditional remedy for limp, dull hair. Beer adds shine and volume to hair when left to go flat and used as a rinse.

Some might protest against wasting good beer on hair, but using a cheap lager every month or so to get shiny, full hair is arguably more natural – and more fun – than using commercial conditioners.

Why Rinse Hair with Beer?

Beer has long been used as a conditioning rinse for hair. The drink contains B vitamins and proteins. Many people find that beer rinses give their hair volume, shine and softness. The effect lasts for several weeks, so it is not necessary to use beer every time you wash your hair.

A number of commercial shampoos and conditioners have been produced which contain beer or stout.

What Brand of Beer is Best for Hair Rinses?

The brand of beer is not important (although it needs to be a fermented beer), but the beer must be flat. Because beer isn’t very cheap, some people like to use leftover beer from parties. Mixing different kinds of beer – lager, ale, stout and so forth – is fine. If you don’t like that idea, a new can of beer will work beautifully if it is opened and left at room temperature for several hours or overnight. Not only does this get rid of the fizz, but the alcohol in the beer will begin to evaporate. (Any remaining alcohol in the beer will not harm the hair, as it is rinsed out quickly.)

How to Rinse Hair with Beer

There are a few different methods for rinsing hair with beer.

Perhaps the simplest way is to shampoo hair as normal, rinse the shampoo out, and then simply pour the beer carefully over your wet hair. Some people like to pour the beer into a jug and swish the length of their hair in the beer first – this ensures good coverage. Massage the scalp gently to ensure the beer touches all the roots of the hair.

Rinse the beer out. From there you can finish the wash with a blast of cold water (which seals down the cuticle of the hair and helps it look shiny), or you can use conditioner in the regular way. Some people find that they do not need to use conditioner when they rinse with beer.

Another way to use beer is to mix the flat beer with a small amount of shampoo, and apply like regular shampoo. This method does require a bit more preparation, however, and is not necessary.

A minority of people apply the beer at the end of their shower and do not rinse it out. The beery smell will dissipate as the hair dries, but many people find their hair feels sticky and unpleasant.

Beer rinses can also be combined with other natural haircare methods – for instance, beer can be used at the end of a water-only wash, used in place of a cider vinegar rinse, or used with Indian herbs.

BEER AS A HAIR BODY BUILDER.

Beer, not only a yummy drink people devour too much over the weekend, who knew it could be used as a wonderful hair aid. Yup, sounds crazy, but this one actually worked. Right before I headed to the beautiful city of Puerto Vallarta, us girls at Salon Stylush did a Keratase styling class. Which was amazing, but the instructor decided to do a deep hair treatment on me. Which normally would have been awesome, but I was heading to Mexico the next day with very limp conditioned hair. See, my hair is so fine and limp that when its “too” conditioned and add humidity to the equation its just gets super flat and blah. I figured that the treatment would wear out in a few days, but it didn’t. It keep on keeping on with lots of silkiness and I was getting irritated with my limp hair. So I decided to look into natural products to give my hair some bounce. And I gave it some bounce with some beer. images (1)

See, beer adds body to hair from the large amounts of yeast and hops it has in it. It actually helps plump up your hair cuticle. Since I was in Mexico, we had Corona readily available in the fringe so I decided to go with that.

To do this treatment, I’ll you have to do is grab a brew and pour into a cup to deplete some of the carbonation. After its sat out for an hour or so, I jumped in the shower, shampoo/condition as normal, towel dried, then began pouring beer all over my hair, fully saturating and then I styled as normal. I would recommend if you have a spray bottle to put some of your warm beer in it, and spray it on your hair after you get out of the shower. I would have used a spray bottle, but I didn’t have one readily available. I know it sounds super crazy, but this little trick saved my hair for the rest of my Vacation. At first when you do it, I will say you will smell like beer, but after it dried, it completely went away. I was incredibly happy this worked, that my hair got it’s bounce back and I will definitely do this one again.

10 Hair Rules You’re Probably Breaking

1) Find a shampoo that lathers less. Sudsy doesn’t necessarily mean clean—sometimes, it means the opposite. Shampoos that lather too much are often overloaded with moisturizing products, which can leave build-up in your hair, making it look and feel dirtier quicker. So opt for a sulfate-free formula.

2) Give your locks a burst of cold. Before you hop out of the shower, turn the cold water on for a second and quickly rinse it through your strands. It helps seal the cuticle, adding a sleek finish to your locks.

3) Play hot-and-cold as you dry. When using a round brush to dry your hair in sections, start from the roots and dry all the way to the ends, letting the brush linger at the tips of your strands. Let your hair cool off like this on its own for five seconds, then repeat on another section. Alternating between heat and cool-down time helps set your style, and your blowout will have more body.

4) Do an at-home glaze between color appointments. Glazes fill holes and rough spots in your hair cuticles, helping smooth your locks and put moisture back into your hair. This keeps your color shiny and bright so it lasts longer and look better. Plus, you can snag an at-home kit from your local drugstore.

5) Use rollers for high-volume. For sex-kitten lift, blow out your locks until they’re dry. Then, section off the hair on top of your head—between your temples and all the way back to the crown of your hair. Divide that section into three smaller sections vertically (as if you were making a mohawk), and wrap each in a 2-inch velcro hair roller. Let your hair sit like this for 30 minutes, and then unwrap your strands, lightly comb them out, and spray for hold.

6) Drop the towel. Keeping wet strands wrapped in a towel for a half-hour as you do your make-up will just cause frizz! The roughness of the cotton forces your hair cuticles open, making them more likely to go every-which-way. Instead, squeeze out excess water as soon as you’re out of the shower, then let your hair air-dry for five or ten minutes before blowdrying.

7) Apply products 10 minutes before you style. Whether you’re curling, straightening, or whatevering, applying product 10 minutes in advance helps it fully absorb into your strands so you get all of its benefits and more bang for your buck.

8) Wrap—don’t clamp—your hair for quick curls. When using a curling iron, you don’t need to fasten your locks to the barrel. Wrap sections around the iron and hold in place for about 10 seconds to score the same soft, sexy curls.

9) Use spray bottles as your new lazy-day BFF. If you wake up and your locks are totally flat or grungy from the day before, just spray the top layer of your hair until damp, and then use a big barrel roundbrush (2 inches or more) to blow your locks dry. You’ll score high volume on that top layer, and since it’s freshly blown out, you’ll create the illusion of all-over smooth hair.

10) Use dry shampoo a different way. Instead of waiting until your locks need an dirt-fighting pick-me-up, apply a dab of dry shampoo to your roots immediately after you wash and dry them. Though your hair’s already clean, the barrier will stave off the debris and oil your strands will collect throughout the day before it hits. Bonus: It also gives you killer volume.

How to Do a Mayonnaise Hair Treatment

Mayonnaise (album)
Mayonnaise (album) (Photo credit: Wikipedia)
  1. Purchase some mayonnaise at your local grocery store. It doesn’t matter which brand you choose, just as long as it is regular mayonnaise. (No need to get the low-fat stuff — it’s going in your hair not in your body!)
  2. Prep your hair using warm water to get it nice and damp, but not soaking wet.
  3. Scoop some mayonnaise out of the jar and start rubbing it through your hair like you would a conditioner. The amount that you are going to use really depends on the length and thickness of your hair. Feel free to lather on the amount that you feel most comfortable with.
  4. Wrap your head of hair with a plastic wrap, a plastic bag, or shower cap to trap the heat inside. Heat opens the pores and allows the treatment to penetrate strands further and thus work better.
  5. Let the treatment sit on the hair for at least 20 minutes. You can let it sit longer depending on how damaged your hair already is.
  6. Wash the mayonnaise out. This is most easily done in the shower using a diluted shampoo. You may need to shampoo a few times before you are able to get all of the mayonnaise out. Be sure to use the shampoo gently, not tangling the hair.

5 Tips to Protect Your Hair From Work-Out

stock-footage-beautiful-long-black-hair-being-combed

  • Protect Your Hair From Sweat – Protecting your hair from sweat as much as possible is a must. If you have long natural hair, placing it in a high ponytail or bun is the best method. If your hair isn’t long enough to pull back, protective styles such as twists and braids are strongly advised. After you’ve chosen your workout style, place a silk scarf or sweat headband around the edges of your hair. The more you sweat, the puffier your edges will become, and we all know that can be quite a monster to tame. I usually put my locs in a really high bun, and wrap my hairline with a silk scarf, making sure that both the front and back edges are covered.
  • Allow Your Hair to Dry After Workout – My scalp is usually extremely damp after a good workout. To avoid my hair getting extremely frizzy, I make sure I allow my hair to completely dry before taking off the silk scarf. If you’re in a rush or would like your hair to dry faster, use the cooling setting on your blow dryer to help speed the process.
  • Make a Schedule – Washing your hair every day, as well as sweating from workouts, can be a dangerous combo for us natural women. It causes hair to become brittle, and will dry it out. Make a schedule of your workout days and appoint a day for wash. I suggest only washing your hair once a week with an intense workout schedule. If your hair has a strong odor or if you feel you may need more, a good dry shampoo is a simple, fast, effective solution. Also, don’t be a stranger to co-washing (that is, washing with conditioner instead of shampoo).
  • Workout in Cooler Climates – Working out in cooler climates will help reduce the amount that you sweat into your hair. I refrain from running outdoors during midday in the summer, because the heat intensity can be a bit much. But if you prefer outdoor exercise, try to go earlier in the day, just after the sun sets (to remain safe).
  • Health Before Hair – You should never sacrifice a good workout and staying healthy because of your hair. Keeping a good routine can allow you to have a healthy mind, body and spirit. It will also promote hair growth. Make sure you are also maintaining a good diet. Believe it or not, our hair is a reflection of what we eat too!

Have a good workout!
